There is a history of poets using terms like wine as a metaphor for loving God. Both wine and love can be intoxicating. Of course wine of the grape can foster ruination, while the wine of divine love leads to liberation. This song is about the wine of divine love.

It has been said that when divine love reaches its peak the longing is so intense that there is no recourse but to die for the Beloved. This song is about that love.

The fortune of love is to yearn more for our Beloved. By Divine Grace we think more and more of our Beloved and less and less of ourselves, until we have diminished to nothing, and only our Beloved remains.

Before finding Meher Baba my life was exceptionally happy and filled with love. Since Baba embraced me my life is so much more happy, and I experience much more love. If I had to go back to my previous life, by contrast it would be terrible misery. Now Baba fulfills the depth of my heart more than I could have ever imagined before.

We have so many names for God. I believe this is in part because God, being beyond all and everything, is of course beyond any name we can give. Of course when God manifests as the Avatar, Messiah, Prophet, Christ, Buddha, etc. then that Name is special.
